Chaos-free road trips with littlies
Everyone is excited about taking off for the holidays. But before you can relax at the bach - you’ve got to drive there, with a backseat full of kids.
If it’s possible to leave at night or very early morning, the kids could travel while still asleep for at least part of the journey. And that’s a lot less stressful on everyone - provided, of course, that you’ve had sufficient sleep yourself.
If you can cover the backseat with an old sheet you’ll stress a lot less over spills and things.
Have a good store of paper towels and wipes, and a rubbish bag to drop them into.
Pack lots of toys and goodies to keep the kids occupied, including cds or tapes they would like.
Make sure you have a way to block the sun through the side and back windows, especially if you have to travel in the high part of the day.
If you’re still feeding via bottles, prepare a few in advance and keep them in a chilly bin.
Buckle everyone up securely.
Guys - don’t try to drive right through in one long trip - stop at least 2-hourly for a walk around and a stretch. And share the driving between partners if possible.
